Saturday is Museum Day: Get your learn on, for cheap

Posted on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 3:03 PM

I know, you've been meaning to get to the museum, but what with soccer practice and Glee and all, you just haven't had the time. Well, make time this Saturday, when it won't even cost you anything (if you drag along a beneficent friend). As part of Smithsonian Magazine's annual Museum Day*, you can get two admissions for the price of one† you can get into the museum absolutely free.

Both the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture and the Museum of North Idaho are taking part in the festivities. All you need to do is surf over to the event's website, fill out your information and print off the ticket they'll email you. If you're feeling really adventurous, you can always head over to Long Beach, Wash., and check out the World Kite Museum and Hall of Fame**, which is also taking part.

This Saturday, rip the cable out of the wall and force your children into the car to accompany you to the museum. Lord knows there are some things even Spongebob can't teach them.

*International Museum Day is celebrated on May 18, but I'm pretty sure neither of these things are actual holidays. I think they just make 'em up as they go along.

** The hall of Fame is for people, not kites, and includes kiting luminaries such as Benjamin Franklin and Giambattista della Porta, a 16th-century Italian dude who hoisted kittens and puppies aloft because, well … science, I guess.

† This is a correction from earlier, because apparently I can't comprehend written English.
