MORNING HEADLINES: Failed presidential candidate to take over Washington

Posted on Tue, May 3, 2011 at 8:26 AM

No more teachers, no more books — Due to the imminent budget cuts there might actually be less teachers and less books, which is why some students at Eastern Washington University are protesting all week. (SR)

Fast, furious and, oops, hit a tree — Two men involved in some street racing on 29th Avenue on Spokane's South Hill last night will be charged with vehicular assault. (KXLY)

Spokane's mayoral race becomes a race — David Condon, who has worked in U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers' office since she joined Congress, has challenged Mayor Mary Verner in her re-election bid. But he says it's not about Verner. No, it's all about him! (SR)

'Rhymes with Spinach' to run in Washington? — Democratic U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich is losing his district in Ohio thanks to redistricting. His (rumored) plan: to run in Washington state's new district (which will come into existence also thanks to redistricting). Kucinich is probably best known as a really unsuccessful presidential candidate and hobbyist of UFOs. We'll classify this as the lamest news of the day. (The Stranger)
