MORNING BRIEFING: Cops, robbers, shooters and Old Man Winter

Posted By on Mon, Nov 14, 2011 at 9:16 AM

Headlines

Colville police have shot a man in his twenties after responding to a call of vehicle prowling. Details are scarce at this time (KREM)

Spokane police are on the lookout for a man in his mid-20s who robbed a Zip Trip on Francis last night. (KHQ)

Unless Mayor Mary Verner can sweep 80 percent of the votes together, it's a pretty sure bet that Spokane's next chief executive will be David Condon. The independent candidate hasn't called the win just yet, but some are already throwing questions at him as to how he'll make good on campaign promises. (SR)

Yes, folks — Sister Summer and Friar Fall are long gone. Might's well reach out and shake the hand of Old Man Winter, who blows through town again this week. (SR)

Out There

Anders Behring Breivik admitted to a Norwegian court today that yes, he did kill 77 people in July at a youth camp, but, no, he's not guilty. Uh, what? (Times of India)

The Supreme Court will decide if President Obama's healthcare plan — which could provide more than 30 million with medical coverage — is legal. Get ready for this to be the talk of the 2012 election. (Reuters)

Occupy Portland got nasty this weekend. PDX Mayor Sam Adams and the cops announced Saturday would be the day two park encampments would be evicted, and a crowd of over 5,000 protesters showed up to make that as difficult as possible. Arrests and dance parties happened. (Portland Mercury)

Chelsea Clinton will team up with the NBC Nightly News and Rock Center with Brian Williams as a correspondent. She's come so far since that awkward first-middle-schooler. (MSNBC)

Video of the Morning

Yes, folks. Black Sabbath will tour in 2012.
