Want to know everything about the professional lives of four guys selected as finalists for the job of Spokane Police chief, with the exception of their addresses and phone numbers? Well, now you can.

The City of Spokane released resumes for all four finalists in an email today. The finalists were announced earlier in the day.

The decision was made "based on our approach with this position, which is to be open and transparent and let citizens have the opporiunty to weigh in in a meanningful way," says city spokeswoman Marlene Feist.

Resumes are exempt from disclosure under Washington's public records law, but they can be released if an organization so chooses, Feist says. City officials thought an exception warranted in this case, Feist says.

"If someone’s applying to be a meter reader, were not disclosing their resume," Feist says.

The four are in competition to replace former Spokane Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick, who stepped down last year. Interim Chief Scott Stephens currently runs the department, but Spokane Mayor David Condon says he's not interested in candidates from within the department.
