South Hill wine bar/venue The Calm is closing to relocate

The Calm, a South Hill wine bar and events venue “designed with women in mind,” has closed to move to a new location.

“It is with great excitement and a bit of sadness that we share this information with you,” a message on the business website says. “The Calm will be moving! While this is very exciting, it does mean that we will of course incur business interruption while we go through the phases of relocation.”

The business, owned by Jennifer Miley, opened last October at 1303 S. Grand Blvd. The somewhat mysterious message indicates The Calm will reopen under new ownership sometime in the future in a yet-to-be-announced location.

“Please know, due to confidentiality reasons and negotiation purposes, we can not at this time expand on who the new owners are, or where our new location will be,” the site says. “Our staff are as informed as each of you and do not have any further information at this time either.”

Membership at the business — which was optional — cost $500 for a year, and the message says members will be reimbursed to their credit cards by the end of the month for the amount of time remaining. Those who received memberships through charity sales or other ways will get a check mailed to them.
