Since I wrote this profile on Deer Park transplant Brittny Eidsvoog and her family's struggle to get by on food stamps alone, I've received dozens of emails and phone calls from readers eager to help — whether it's by donating Christmas toys; warm, winter clothes; or a bag of groceries.

But what Eidsvoog could really use is a vehicle and a few dollars in her savings account. The mobile home park where Eidsvoog lives is isolated — flanked by farmland and forest and little else. Every morning, Monday through Friday, she walks her son three miles to the bus stop and back. Without a car and no way to save money to buy one, Eidsvoog is stuck. She can't search, apply or interview for jobs; take her kids to day care; or access community service programs that could help her. 

Now, Eidsvoog's former classmates have started a GoFundMe campaign to help Brittny buy a car and move her family closer to the city, where she'll have better access to all the opportunities that could turn her life around. 

Amy Monesmith, from Moses Lake, went to school with Eidsvoog at Eastmont High in East Wenatchee. With Eidsvoog's permission and her graduating class' support, Monesmith set up the GoFundMe page. So far, they've raised $390.  

"We grew up with her and she's down on her luck," Monesmith told me over the phone this morning. "We're here to help and we're just thankful we're able to help."

Their goal is to raise $3,500 for Eidsvoog — $1,500 for a vehicle, licensing, car insurance and gas, and $2,000 to relocate.
