Comic crafting class for teens

Posted By on Fri, Feb 13, 2015 at 2:03 PM

Art is not solely for the artistic. Illustration is an intrinsic part of storytelling and, according to master comic Laura Neubert, can be learned by anyone with a good idea. Laura is taking her love for illustration and will be offering a comic class for teens where she will teach her tips and tricks for wielding great ides into visual story sequences that will wow audiences.

Laura Neubert, aka Rosengeist, is the author of hauntingly beautiful webcomics such as the upcoming collection The Light Eaters. With her Masters in Sequential Art from SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) and a slew of travel experience, Laura has learned that narrative and comics go hand in hand.

"It was a medium I sort of stumbled into," explains Neubert, "and in light of that, I'd like to try and help others find it more easily than I did."

Her quirky and geekish flair and passion for telling stories will make for an exciting learning experience.

"I figured that maybe, there were other people like me out there, and now that I better understand comics, I can help pass that on to others."

Students will learn scripting techniques to hone in their ideas to present them as clearly as possible. They will explore the differing methods when using medias such as ink and paint, and will discover which media fits their story best. Laura will also teach how to best capture the human body, and finally, the different platforms that comics can reach audiences.

The class will begin this Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 5 pm, and will continue for the next four weeks at Auntie's Bookstore. Preregistration by Saturday, Feb. 14, through Auntie's is encouraged.
