Chefs Week PNW kicks off its first edition Wednesday night, and features some of the best culinary minds in the Northwest.

We might have a lot of April showers in store as we motor into spring, but that's no excuse for ignoring all the entertaining options in our event listings and Staff Picks

Here are a few options from the week ahead:

Monday, March 28

LIVE BANDS | The Baby Bar hosts The Blind Pets and Guilt Gift, offering a little rock to open the week.

LIVE BANDS | Over at The Pin!, Texas metal gods The Sword headline a show sure to melt faces, among other body parts. Royal Thunder opens. Read our interview with the band, and give them a listen here:

Tuesday, March 29

WORDS | The greatest stamp of approval a poet can receive is undoubtedly that of the The New Yorker. Robyn Schiff, who will read from her newest book of poems, A Woman of Property, as part of Gonzaga’s Visiting Writers Series, got the favorable nod. While the main appearance is at 7:30 pm, at 1:15 pm, she will also take part in a Q&A session at the Hemmingson Center.

LIVE BANDS | The second edition of the Northwest of Nashville series takes over The Bartlett, extending the St. Patty's Day vibe a bit with Irish-tinged tunes from An Dochas, Broken Whistle, Floating Crowbar and the Howling Gael Trio.

Wednesday, March 30

ETC | We might have a rainy spring, but the dry summer days aren't far away. Learn how to be an Earth-friendly water-user with a free talk on Easy Water-Wise Gardening at the Spokane Valley Library.

LIVE BANDS | Warren Haynes leads Govt Mule and has been a member of the Allman Brothers Band, The Dead and assorted other crews. He's on a solo tour supporting his bluegrass-tinged Ashes & Dust album. While it might be mellower than normal, expect a good ol' time at The Bing for this one. Here's a sample:

FOOD & DRINK | Chefs Week PNW kicks off its weekend full of killer culinary experiences at the Washington Cracker building on Wednesday. Read our story on the event for the full low-down.

Thursday, March 31

HEALTH & WELLNESS | Auntie's feeds the mind every day through readings and talks and all those amazing books. Now it feeds the body, too, with Auntie's Does Yoga starting at 5:15 pm.

WORDS | Historical nonfiction writer Timothy Egan drops by Auntie's later in the evening to read from his new one, The Immortal Irishman, at 7 pm.

LIVE BANDS | Joanna Newsom brings her winsome, harp-driven sound to The Bing, where she'll be joined by the Fleet Foxes' Robin Peckold for a night sure to be remembered in Spokane for a long time. Read our story about Newsom right here

Friday, April 1

COMEDY | The Spokane Comedy Club has a weekend full of Chris D'Elia, who you might know from his stints on sitcoms Whitney and Undateable if you haven't checked out his standup yet. You should.

VISUAL ARTS | It's First Friday in Spokane, people! Get out there and check out some awesome artwork all over town!
