RAWK Final Four face-off, five bands Yukon the Archer, Executive Smack, the Sassmatrons, Victory for a Day and Act One Scene One duked it out Saturday night for the crown at The Service Station.
In the four weeks since playing the third
preliminary round of the competition, Executive Smack, an indie band
made up of Lewis & Clark High kids, had to find a new drummer and
write a new set. They didn't feel right about calling themselves
Executive Smack in the finals so they changed their name to Lazurwuulf
(obviously) and dubbed themselves techno.
Whatever they did — the spontaneity, the heavy German name, the 100 or so glow sticks they threw to the crowd — was right: The group edged out Yukon the Archer by 10 votes when all was said and done. According to Dale Strom, it's the first time a wild card band has won.
Strom echoes the
sentiment of RAWK president Dave Crume printed in last week's Inlander
in regards to future plans for the competition: "As you may have heard,
the RAWK board has not committed to doing the RAWK Final Four in the
future, so only time will tell."
