EWU Football: Name that turf

Posted By on Wed, Aug 4, 2010 at 11:12 AM

So the reddening of the field at Eastern Washington University's Woodward Field is well underway. For those of you not familiar with the young trend of coloring one's football stadium an unnaturally bright, un-grass-like-though-school-spirited hue: In 1986, the Boise State Broncos, a good team in the relatively unheralded Big Sky Conference, replaced the grass in their stadium with artificial turf colored a bright Bronco blue. Twenty years later, they're one of the best teams in college football.

Are the two events connected? The Eastern Washington Eagles — a good team in the still-relatively-unheralded Big Sky Conference — aren't waiting around to find out. The new, bright Eagle-red turf is being laid as we speak, but there are still a number of ways YOU! Yes YOU! can get involved.

Or, our personal favorite:

Sadly, neither "Blood Bowl" nor "Seizure Central," are voting options. Those were our No. 1 and No. 2 picks. So we went with "Lava Pit," which is an actual option.
