Boise State unveils awful uniforms

I may not be a world-famous fashion model anymore, but I do have eyes. Nike and Boise State, from the looks of things, do not. At a media event in New York City, 10 Bronco players unveiled the Nike Pro Combat series of uniforms, which are "engineered to provide superior protection and durability, while utilizing advanced fabrics and tooling that reduce weight," according to a BSU press release.

Notice how none of those words involves how the uniforms look to people who have been granted the gift of sight.

According to the Idaho Statesman's blog, the players who wore the uniforms for practice Saturday night are fans. "I like them a lot actually," senior WR Austin Pettis said.

Pettis was among the players who collaborated with Nike on the design. He says the players' input focused primarily on "more gray" and the inclusion of the phrase "Bleed Blue." It was not mentioned whether they petitioned to have none of the vaguely blue-ish/purple-ish colors match.

Mouse over the image above to see what an amazing impact lighting* has on these beauties. Given the photos taken onstage and the ones provided in as part of the press packet, it's going to take some fantastic choreography and camera filters to make these uniforms look good. And set against the Smurf Turf of Boise State? Well, make sure you carry extra gauze so you can catch all the blood gushing from your eyes.

I guess Nike's tagline was appropriate: "UNTAMED. UNAPOLOGETIC. Boise State University."

*In this case, "lighting" actually means "Photoshop."
