City reaches agreement with the Police Guild

Posted on Fri, Dec 3, 2010 at 4:46 PM

The City of Spokane has reached a tentative agreement with the Police Guild, potentially saving jobs for 35 police officers.

“We are past the eleventh hour on this agreement. If this weren’t so important to our community, we couldn’t get it done,” Mayor Mary Verner said in a statement. “Today, the citizens are the winners, since we will be able to maintain current levels of police services. This is a good day.”

The Guild follows in the footsteps of the firefighters union, which reached an agreement with the city last week. For the agreement to move forward, the Guild's members and the City Council have to approve it.
