You could say that Bearcubbin’ — a Portland-area instrumental math rock outfit — knows a thing or two about music. Drummer, Mike Byrne, was the 19-year-old kid who wooed Smashing Pumpkins frontman, Billy Corgan, a few years back when he did a nationwide search for a new stickman. So when the young Byrne isn’t, you know, playing “Today” or “Bullet with Butterfly Wings” around the world to a million screaming fans, he’s making grimy, heavy, driving rock with Bearcubbin’. The whole band is good — but go to see Byrne absolutely rip up the kit. Check our story on them out here, and see them at Mootsy's tonight at 8 pm. (21)
