You know how Meals on Wheels is struggling with serious budget cuts? Here’s another way to help and eat your fill of pancakes. Meals on Wheels runs the Silver Cafe, a restaurant here in Spokane that serves discounted meals to seniors and regular-price meals to everyone else. They’ve already had to cut back hours, and may have to close their doors. This Sunday, for Fathers Day, they’re hosting a pancake feed from 9 am to noon. It’s just $5, all for a good cause.
This one is a little farther from us than we’d typically mention, but it’s a good yarn and pretty far from everything — the Dirty Shame Saloon in remote Yaak, Mont., is reopening under new owners who promise to maintain its nefarious reputation while offering a high-quality, made-from-scratch menu. The whole saga involves bullets in the walls, a previous owner/priest convicted of molestation charges and the removal of some controversial carpet.
Finally, the return of one of those ideas that seems completely obvious and irresistible once you see it done: growlers for iced coffee, at Revel 77.
