by Inlander Staff & r & Pedal vs. Metal -- Promoters for The Roar 2005 this weekend are bringing in The Nuge Himself, Ted Nugent, as the Saturday night headliner. They're also holding a "Ride-In Bike Show ... open to all event participants who actually ride their bikes in." Some of us Binsters are pretty psyched about arriving on our new Trek bikes, just like Lance rode, with their titanium derailleurs.... Yeah, that's a French word.


Oh, that kind of bike.


Did we mention that The Nuge is playing? We're told that "his 'full throttle' approach to all things hits a bull's-eye with bikers, hunters and rock fans alike."


Right there it says "bikers." But stay tuned: As of press time, a venue had not been finalized for this show. It will not be, as previously announced, at Post Falls' Greyhound Park.





Fourteen PG-13 Movies -- Moviegoers who live north of the North Division Y, rejoice. To catch a flick after the loss of the Newport, Lyons and North Division cinemas, you've had to confront the malls with their parking garages, their clumps of sullen teenagers. But springtime promises a new 14-screen multiplex at the Wandermere shopping center, Hwy. 395 and Farwell Road. Which is just east of Mead High School. Which probably still means hordes of sulky teens. At least the movies will be closer.





Artists Helping Theater -- Nonprofit theaters can always use the dough, so Interplayers is throwing a champagne and hors d'oeuvres/silent auction/musical cabaret kind of fund-raiser next Friday night, Aug. 12. It'll feature food donated by such local restaurants as Charley's, Niko's, Percy's Americana Cafe, the Rocket bakeries and the Satellite. Auction items include lots of theater tickets, a night at the Hotel Lusso and a '94 Pontiac Grand Prix (good for cruisin' the boulevards after the show). As you sip the bubbly, a dozen of your favorite local performers will sing show tunes.

A 70-Mile Walk in the Park -- The Coeur d'Alene Ironman Triathlon gets the headlines around here, but it's worth noting that the Troika Triathlon is celebrating its 25th year this Sunday. Starting at 7 am with a 1.2-mile swim in Medical Lake, more than 200 competitors will then leave Waterfront Park on a 56-mile bike ride (looping toward Cheney before returning through Medical Lake and heading north, then east and through Riverside State Park and transitioning to the run). Then all they have left is a 13-mile out-and-back run on the Centennial Trail until they finally, wearily reach the finish line in Riverfront Park.


By then, they deserve some kind of sobriquet: Persons of Pewter? Aluminum Foil Men?
