Kingdom of the Ice Princess

OK, people. We've got tens of thousands of figure skating fans wandering around downtown during the next few days. Somebody remind Avista to turn on the falls.

In other skating developments, not only was the Ice Palace at Riverfront Park named one of the 10 best outdoor ice arenas by Outdoor magazine, but also, this last year, 1992 Olympic gold medalist Kristi Yamaguchi included it in her list of "10 Great Places To Cut a Fine Figure Eight," published in USA Today. As Yamaguchi told The Inlander this week, "When I was touring with Stars on Ice, we always visited Spokane, and we stayed right near the park. That's one of the great settings for skating with the whole family."

Patty Duke Palouse Show

They Have Hearts After All

Oscar loves comebacks and underdogs. How else to explain the nominations of Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Hudson, Jackie Earle Haley and the little girl who could in Little Miss Sunshine? How else to explain the exclusion of half of Brangelina and every single big-name actor in The Departed?

His Show Will Go On

The leader of Sirius Idaho Theater, John Dickinson, was a strong advocate of Touch, about a tragic introvert/extrovert attraction. Despite Dickinson's accidental death on Jan. 7, Sirius will go ahead with its production about the loss of a loved one on Jan. 25-27 and Jan. 31-Feb. 3 at the Kenworthy in Moscow. Visit www.kenworthy.org or call (208) 882-4127.

Schrieber Way. Tickets: $10; $15, at the door. Call (208) 769-5978.
