Juice on the Move

Fruition is coming back. And to stay this time.

It all started Bloomsday morning. Sisters Renee (the oldest, at 24), Haley, Courtney, Carly and Mackenzie Fagras (the youngest, at 15) loaded up their trailer and headed downtown for the grand debut of their new endeavor: providing tasty, healthy juice and snacks. Runners and supporters alike queued around the block, clamoring for more juice. But then they packed up and disappeared into thin air. “Who’s behind Fruition?,” people asked on various web outlets. Where did they go? Most importantly, when and where can I get some more friggin’ juice?

Healthy eating became a priority for the Fagras sisters two years ago, after watching their mother, Cheryl, battle health problems. After making dietary changes and finding themselves revitalized, they were still frustrated with the lack of economical dining options for organic and vegetarian/vegan-minded individuals in the region. So, the sisters began tossing around the idea of starting a place of their own.

“There are a few great places to eat in Spokane, but they tend to be expensive,” says Renee.

It didn’t hurt to have a veteran restaurateur for a father. In addition to being an Air Force pilot, their father, Gordon, along with Cheryl once ran two restaurants, one of which was located in the space that is now Gordy’s.

“I guess we’ve always had it in our blood to [cook],” says Renee.

Gordon would also visit food-truck-loving returning with stories of all sorts of healthy concoctions served out of a kitchen on wheels. So they purchased a trailer. Initially, Fruition will pop up at local events, but as far as permanent location goes, they’re closing a deal to plant roots in the Perry District.

“We love the neighborhood and want to stay,” says Haley, who works as a hair stylist at the nearby Roots Salon.

Later in the season, they’ll also feature a vegan coconut soft-serve, which is brought to a swoon-worthy level sandwiched between two banana cookies.
