Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever

While it might sound like a Pay-Per-View boxing event, Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever is actually an action thriller starring Antonio Banderas as an FBI agent who is forced to collaborate with his longtime foe Sever (Lucy Liu) against a common enemy. Rated: R

The Banger Sisters

"Hippie-dippy" does not begin to insult this paean to groupie-dom as much as this unfortunately named fizzle of a comedy does to audiences. Goldie Hawn and Susan Sarandon are game as the mid-50s reprobates reminiscing over their long-past exploits, but the movie is sanctimonious and dull. (RP) Rated: R

The Four Feathers

Film buffs have seen this before, but the newest remake, with Heath Ledger, Wes Bentley and Kate Hudson, is as thrilling as ever. British troops in the late 1800s are sent to the Sudan to prevent a native takeover. Dashing Harry (Ledger) quits the army and is labeled a coward, leading him to prove to himself that he's not. Amazing cinematography and battle sequences. (ES) Rated PG-13

My Wife is an Actress

If you can imagine something from the generic aisle of the grocery store called "Soup," you could also imagine Yvan Attal's My Wife Is An Actress (Ma Femme Est Un Actrice) being labeled "French Movie." Charlotte Gainsbourg is all Gallic charm as a woman with a jealous sportswriter husband; some may like this film, but others will find it too self-satisfied. (RP) Rated: R. Tadpole

From France and elsewhere, we're all too familiar with stories of middle-aged men and younger paramours, but Tadpole wreaks a Boylita version of the stereotype, with a forty-ish woman (Sigourney Weaver) pursued by a 15-year-old adept (Aaron Stanford) -- who happens to be her stepson. Tadpole is a surprising -- and gratifying -- treasure, as slight (and sly) as a wink, as weighty as unrequited infatuation. (RP) RATED: PG-13 At the Met on Sept. 19-20, at 5:30 and 8 pm.

Trapped

A wealthy doctor's wife (Charlize Theron) lives a seemingly perfect existence until her world is invaded by kidnappers (Kevin Bacon, Courtney Love) who take her diabetic daughter (Dakota Fanning). Contrary to what the casting might suggest, these kidnappers are no backwoods hicks but instead experienced pros who carry briefcases and know how to cover their tracks. Rated: R
