Swap and Spin -- This Saturday, June 11, be sure to check out the fifth annual Music Swap at the Shop (924 S. Perry St.), spearheaded once again by the Lord of Long-players, the Viceroy of Vinyl, DJ Breezy Brown -- aka Tony Brown of Unified Groove Merchants Record Store. The Music Swap is an open and public forum for anyone and everyone looking to buy, sell, or trade anything and everything musical -- from audio gear and instruments to recorded music in a variety of media. Local sellers set up in the parking lot and buyers can browse for free starting at 9 am. (And there's no admission fee, either.) Around 200 sellers are expected to show up this year. Brown has also once again enlisted a number of local DJs to provide the shopping music. So far, he's got Brainchild, Nealie Neal, the Vagabond, Devin, Cheddar Chad and a couple of others on deck representing a wide range of styles from folk to funk, exotica to garage. Yeah! Seriously, this is a great time. If you miss it, you'd better be dead or in jail. Selling space is available until Friday, June 10. For info, call Tony at 230-9264.

Mix It Up -- Hey, local bands, are you looking to get some national exposure but don't know where to start? Well, look no further than our own little town. Spokane's own Kyle McDermott recently launched his own Web site,, aimed at helping independent musicians like you to get exposure on a large-scale spectrum. Since the site fired up on Jan. 1, it has become home to nearly 6,000 songs and has allowed members to interact with other musicians, get fan mail, chat and review each other's work. Mixposure already boasts more than 28,000 reviews and is growing every day. Sweet!
