Inlander scores big at SPJ competition

The Inlander took home more awards than any other alternative weekly in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska in this year’s Northwest Excellence in Journalism Competition, presented by the Society of Professional Journalists.

The paper received six first-place honors: Luke Baumgarten, our Arts & Culture editor, won three of those — for reporting on lifestyles, personalities and criticism. Kevin Taylor, a senior writer, had two first-place finishes for articles on social issues and government and politics. Jacob Fries, our Managing Editor, placed first in sports reporting.
