Plasma headed for Earth

Yeah, you read that right. Gawker's calling it a "burp" and the Portland Mercury called it a "fart" — and we're pretty good with both of those terms. Essentially, the surface of the sun belched a whole bunch of energy the other day, and now all of that's rippling right in our direction.

Now, now — no hunkering down is needed. When this plasma storm smacks into our sight line tonight or tomorrow, you'll want to be outside watching. Apparently sun-splosions make for pretty cool auroras — and we are likely far enough north to see some of them in the sky. (Be sure to send your pictures along if you catch anything cool.)
