Nicholas Deshais is on the loose!

Posted on Wed, Sep 15, 2010 at 12:16 PM

One hour ago, Inlander staff writer Nicholas Deshais set out from our downtown office, headed due north to the Costco on North Division. This will be the starting point for a three-day journey in which he walks, bikes and paddles the entire 63-mile perimeter of the city of Spokane. (You may remember the germ of this idea from his brief write-up in our June summer guide).

Along his journey — through Hillyard, across the river, up the South Hill, along the Palouse, through Hangman Valley and Riverside State Park and up to Indian Trail — he'll meet with residents, activists, environmentalists and others to talk about how the city's boundaries define us — politically, socially, etc.

The end result of Nick's sojourn will appear on the cover of The Inlander on Sept. 30.

While he's out on the trail, though, he'll be sending updates to Bloglander. Did he face perilous rapids on the river? Was he ridden out of Hillyard on a rail? Was his night's sleep disturbed by coyotes?

Follow along.
