Multi-million-dollar sets at the Met...

... and how to warm up for them. New York's Met Opera is about to launch its new Ring cycle, and the set is gonna be awesome, man: Huge steel planks, manipulable into all kinds of configurations and then used as the backdrop for shifting light-scenery that will be synchronized to the singers' movements. Here in the Inland Northwest, you can see it, broadcast live, at the Regal 20 NorthTown Mall cinemas on Saturday, Oct. 9, from 10 am-1 pm for just $20.

But here's the thing: You need a warm-up opera before that.

Well, Opera CdA has you in mind: As set forth on Bloglander on Monday, they'll put on a production of Puccini's La Boheme at North Idaho College's Schuler Performing Arts Center this Friday at 7:30 pm and Sunday at 2 pm. Top ticket price is $35, but students get in for half that. Call (208) 769-7780. Maybe no 45-ton sets, but still — it's opera.
