Every wonder where fear of water fluoridation came from? Some might say that fictional character USAF Brigadier General Jack D. Ripper's attempt to prevent the contamination of our precious bodily fluids by ordering a squadron of nuclear-armed B-52s to Soviet air space is what started it. Even with Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb's obvious satirical plot, the fear of water that prevents cavities continues today.

Gonzaga professor Mary Pat Treuthart will discuss the Stanley Kubrick masterpiece as part of the Professor Film Series this evening at 7 pm ($10). The 1964 film will be followed by a detailed examination of Sellers' three characters in the film and how Kubrick poked fun at the nation's climate of fear. Water fluoridation is not expected to be a topic. Film discussion and showing will appear at the Magic Lantern.
