Snowpocalypse now

Posted on Fri, Nov 19, 2010 at 11:49 AM

They've been teasing us with their talk of La Niña and snowmageddons for months now, but the metereologists are SURE this time: It's gonna snow. For serious. No foolin', no takesies-backsies. I've got four different national sources that say so.

But what does this mean for you, the unfortunate Spokanite who has to go do their (tremendously early) Christmas shopping tomorrow, or is planning on going ingredient-hunting to get everything you need for the four kinds of mashed potatoes required to sate everyone's hunger on Thanksgiving?

If it does snow enough to actually make an impact, you can keep an eye on the city's snowplowing efforts using their handy online map. If you're really a masochist, you can see exactly how long it will be before the snowplow comes to bury your car by checking out the city's zone map(PDF). As a reminder, studded tires are totes legit as of Nov. 1, so there's really no excuse for your being stranded. If you're more public transit-ly inclined, you can check the STA's snow detours page, and its Facebook page is supposedly the best place to get updates on which routes are snowed out.

And if any snowmen come to your door (abominable or otherwise), remember they can't cross the threshold of your home if you don't invite them in. Also, like children (and me!), they can easily be placated/melted with copious amounts of hot chocolate.
