New Spokane Valley councilman keeps an electronic tradition going

Posted on Fri, Jan 13, 2012 at 10:09 AM

Ben Wick is a new member of the Spokane Valley City Council.

He replaced Bill Gothmann, who for years had sent out an email on Wednesdays called "Notes and Comments," which recapped what happened at that week's council meeting. As the title suggests, Gothmann provided opinion and a bit of analysis to the meeting's events, offering an interesting view into the mind of one local elected official.

This week, Wick (pictured) sent out his own "Notes and Comments."

"I had a great appreciation for former City Council member Bill Gothmann's weekly email updates on what was happening at the City Council Meetings and wanted to continue the tradition," Wick wrote in the email he sent out late last night. "This week I have found an even greater appreciation for his service as I discovered how much time is needed to put these together."

If he continues sending out the email, that'll make exactly two local electeds who try to involve people in the process. Spokane City Councilman Jon Snyder also sends out a breakdown after each meeting, called "Tuesday AM Recap." Unlike Wick and Gothmann, Snyder adds a bit more of his own thoughts into his write-ups, making for some snarky reading at times.

Those interested in getting either "Notes and Comments" should write Wick at [email protected]. To read "Tuesday AM Recap," visit Snyder's site at councilmanjonsnyder.com.
