Tonight, Seattle-based indie folk-pop outfit The Head and The Heart takes the stage of the Knitting Factory for what’s undoubtedly going to be a crowd-pleasing, hand-clappin’ good time. 

Though the six-member group only released its debut album in mid-2009, it’s since been signed on to hip, Seattle-based label Sub Pop Records. The Head and The Heart also has played the main stage of both Sasquatch! Music Festival (twice) and Chicago’s Lollapalooza music fest, garnering a rapidly growing fan base along the way.

During its climb to popularity during the last year or so, The Head and The Heart has opened for a number of big-name acts, including Death Cab for Cutie, Dave Matthews, The Decemberists, Iron & Wine and Vampire Weekend.

The band’s Americana-sound is heavy with harmonious vocals, piano and violin melodies, the latter provided by the group’s lone female member, Charity Thielen, who also provides backup vocals. The group’s songs are all pretty upbeat, and are woven around contagious percussion beats that will get your feet pounding and your hands clapping along in time.

See them take the stage tonight with openers Blitzen Trapper – a Portland-based experimental country/folk group also on Sub Pop – and Curtains for You – another Seattle indie-pop outfit. Tickets are still available for $22.
