Tyler Gassman Is Free

The 2008 conviction of three Spokane Valley men was tossed out this afternoon and a new trial was ordered, his attorneys tell The Inlander.

The men — Tyler Gassman (pictured), Paul Statler and Robert Larson — were featured in a 2010 Inlander report titled "Reasonable Doubt," which outlined a series of issues with the police investigation. Notably, the only evidence against the three was the testimony of a jailhouse snitch, who received a light sentence in exchange for his testimony.

Jacqueline McMurtie, director of the Innocence Project Northwest, says Judge Michael Price, the presiding in the original trial, vacated the men's sentences and ordered a new trial next year. "We are overjoyed."
