The City of Spokane announced a Stage 2 snow event today, which means parking restrictions are in effect and they'll plow all streets. Right now, the forecast shows more precipitation through Wednesday, though a lot of it may come down as rain.

But this probably won't be the last storm of the season, so here are some handy ways to keep up on snow information:

Parking restriction texts

This is a brand new service launched by the city to send you text message alerts about what parking rules are in effect to accomodate plows. Here's what the press release says:

“To sign up for this service, citizens can send a text to 509.385.5775.  Text the word “Brownes” to that number if you live in Browne’s Addition, the word “Hills” if you live along an arterial or in a residential hill route—those numbered 20 and above on our residential plow route map, and the word “Parking” if you live outside of these areas.”

Keep track of what's been plowed and what streets are up next with this real-time plow map from the city. They also have a snow hotline at (509) 456-2666 with recorded information about the order of the routes.

Traffic cams

Along with showing traffic, the traffic cams from Spokane's Regional Transportation Management Center also show you exactly what the road conditions look like at a whole bunch of spots in Spokane, Spokane Valley and the rest of the county. There are also an unfortunately high number of accident reports for today. Drive safely.
