Last week, the Spokane music scene was rocked by the news that one of its most instrumental supporters had passed away. In his honor, a tribute to Isamu Jordan is being held at tonight at The Shop. Featured artists and friends include Tara Foote, Poncho P, Jaeda, Ben Cater and Amoe. The gathering goes from 6-10 pm. Along with all funds raised from the silent auction, 15 percent of all proceeds from food and drink will be going to Som's children's fund.

Save for Bill Clinton and his mighty saxophone blowing skills, there aren’t many musicians out there who can also say they’ve run for president. J.P. Whipple is one who can. Albeit, it was from the side of the highway that he ran his highly unsuccessful campaign — raising only a few dollars towards his cause — but still, he has vision for this country. Swinging by Jones Radiator for the third time this year Friday, the one-man band will show off his truckload of instruments starting at 8 pm. The show is free.

SATURDAY

The Hop! gets hoppin’ with the likes of Blackwater Prophet (see this week’s story here) along with Odyssey, Hooves and Entanglement. The show starts at 7 pm and is $5.

SUNDAY

Video is about to be destroyed at Mootsy’s Sunday at 10 pm with the help of Kithkin, Bandit Train and Clusterf---. Employing the use of the Video Destroyer, music will be paired with video signals throughout the evening performances. Should be a lot of good types of weird going on.

ALL WEEKEND

The name doesn’t give much away, but the Newport Music Festival is a lot more of a bluegrass music celebration than anything else. Sure, there are the Celtic musicians and singer-songwriters thrown in for good measure, but the point is, the music is a lot more acoustic in instrumentation. Highlights will include local Irish music act An Dochas, who will especially bring the raucous, and the Shook Twins, who are making their second regional appearance in two months. Feel free to bring an instrument of your own to this as well, as jam session participation is highly encouraged. Campsites and music workshops are also available for the whole weekend. The whole thing goes down at City Park in Newport, Wash. The cost will run you $10 and up, children under 12 free.
