UPDATE: It's here! (Clearly.)
Change is coming, everyone, and we wanted to give you a little warning so you’re not completely surprised in the near future when our website looks completely different.
It will work differently, too — searching will be easier, so you’ll be able to find that old story or cover without remembering all the details. The mobile version will make it more convenient to look up events and check the latest news on your phone, and there are a few nice details just for those of you who read on an iPad or tablet. And, we’ll continue to have an e-paper version for those of you who like reading an exact replica of the print paper.
We’ve been working on this for a while with the content management company Foundation, which powers the sites for a number of alt-weeklies, magazines and daily newspapers. The No. 1 priority with any publication’s website is that it just works for readers, and we’re confident that basic experience will be much better and more consistent. We don’t even want to bother going through all the problems we’ve encountered or heard about with the old site, but rest assured that basic things like commenting, searching and RSS feeds are going to work.
Beyond just plain working, a publication’s website can offer a lot more than what we can cram into print pages each week, and we’ve got a lot of other new features we’re excited to roll out. Look for more photos, more event listings, more daily updates and other content you’ll only find online.
Here are a few other screenshots of how parts of the site will look:
The latest posts — all the stuff we write between issues that isn’t in print —will be featured on the homepage, by category, so you can always see what we’ve published most recently.
Here's a common problem right now: Someone remembers seeing a story or other thing in print, but can't remember exactly when or what the headline was to find it online. Now we'll have a gallery of previous issues so you can find older content more easily.
Then, within each issue there's a list of all the stories from that week.
