This week, we wrote a feature on one of the most instrumental fiddle teachers in the Inland Northwest, JayDean Ludiker. While much of what Ludiker teaches, at least to beginners, are traditional folk melodies, the fiddle has seen much of a resurgence thanks to bluegrass and folk music increasing in popularity over the past decade.
Here are five fiddlin' bands Ludiker recommends you check out:
1. MilkDrive
This band is a jazz-grass band out of Austin, Texas. It includes Ludiker’s son Dennis on mandolin. The band is playing the Five Suns Bluegrass Festival this weekend in Moses Lake.
3. Elephant Revival
Out of Colorado, this indie Americana band is so cool their frontwoman Bonnie Paine sings while playing the washboard.
4. Nickel Creek Back in the swing of things after a nearly decade-long hiatus on a tour this year, the root-music trio Nickel Creek is headed to the Festival at Sandpoint next weekend.
5. The Greencards
Originally from Australia, this Americana group isn't afraid to be a little more experimental.
