After more than a month of voting, and a tight race to the finish, Spokane ended up in
second place in USA Today's "Best American Riverfront" poll.
Wilmington, N.C., held off the Lilac City to take the top spot. In its write-up about the winning city,
USA Today noted
what we mentioned last week — Wilmington is really more of a coastal city than a river city: "Because Wilmington is associated with the many barrier island destinations for which it serves as a gateway - Wrightsville Beach chief among them - the public often forgets it's actually a river city."
Exactly. But whatever.
The top 10 ended up looking like this:
- Wilmington, N.C.
- Spokane
- Davenport, Iowa
- Dubuque, Iowa
- Pittsburgh, Pa.
- Louisville, Ky.
- Chattanooga, Tenn.
- Savannah, Ga.
- Detroit, Mich.
- Richmond, Va.
