If you feel the need to get a little funky and jazzy and groovy tonight check out the acts over at the Big Dipper. Headlining is Seattle’s Down North, who are always down to party hard. Flying Spiders and Blind Willies open the show. Get there around at 8 pm, cost is $15 at the door.


Want to be a part of a local live recording? Tonight, local rockers Buffalo Jones record their Jones Radiator show for an upcoming live album. Liz Rognes opens up the set starting around 9 pm.

Over at the Pin! crazy local metal act Soblivios releases its first full-length album ever (even though the band's been in existence since 2002). The show includes Tattered, Ironwood, Massacre at the Opera and Concrete Grip. The all-ages show starts at 8 pm and is $8. Read our story on the band here.

SATURDAY
For a band from North Lake Tahoe, Calif., Dead Winter Carpenters have played in this neck of the woods more than you might expect, and this Saturday they’re back at the Barlett. It’s more than OK that the five-piece wants to perform here. They’re just pure entertainment — especially when fiddle player Jenni Charles warps into full beast mode, nearly sawing her strings in two with her fiery bow work. Add a hard-hitting upright bass, drums and a pair of guitars, and you’ve got a ramblin’ Americana act that’ll make you wish the evening never had to end. The all-ages show starts at 8 pm with local openers Silver Treason. Cost is $12 at the door.

SUNDAY
Sunday night, Pete Rock takes to the Red Room Lounge stage along with golden-era Detroit trio (two of the original members are now deceased) Slum Village, adding a bit of vintage hip-hop flavor to your Easter. While neither act scored huge hits in their early-’90s heydays, they’re credited with inspiring major players in the rap scene and still hold sway today. Rock, known for his jazzy, soulful beats and remixes, even won a Grammy for his contribution to Kanye West’s 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. His long-awaited follow-up instrumental album PeteStrumentals 2 is slated for a June release. The show starts at 8 pm and is $20. Openers include Flying Spiders, Q Dot, Imperfect Cody and Soundcast.
