Chicago-based post-punk band Disappears may not offer the soundtrack to spring with its music but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take a listen. They’re playing tonight at the Bartlett starting at 8 pm. The show costs $12. Read this week’s feature story on the band here.


For the first time, Ryan Keberle and his modern jazz band Catharsis play the Bing Crosby Theater tonight. The Mead High School graduate hasn’t played in Spokane as a band leader since he left for New York City in 1999. The show features the Brent Edstrom Trio and starts 7:30 pm for $20. Sandpoint sisters the Shook Twins are back in the area this weekend starting tonight at the Hive in Sandpoint with openers Mama Doll. Then Saturday the indie duo heads over to the Bartlett for a show with the Rustics. These ladies are serious hippie mamas and if you haven’t seen them yet, now is your chance.

Swaxx is going down tonight as Seattle rapper Nacho Picasso, aka Jesse Robinson, is back in town. The hip-hopper has built his career on misogynistic (he talks a lot about “bitches” and "titties") party tunes, but a recent single, “David Bowie,” included samples from a Bowie song off the cult favorite Labyrinth soundtrack, proving Picasso also has an inner nerd. Openers for the show include All Day Trey, TMS, Kemicals, D-Mac, Brotha Nature and more.

SATURDAY
Mom’s Weekend at Washington State University is bringing one badass mother to the Beasley Coliseum stage this Saturday, singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. The popular event has hosted other big names that mothers and their kids can equally approve of like Elton John and Jerry Seinfeld, and now singer-songwriter Crow more than fits into that lineup. A mom of two, the hard working pop/rock/country-influenced musician from Missouri has sold more than 35 million albums worldwide since getting her start as a backup singer for Michael Jackson in the late ’80s. Every show she does is sprinkled with a bit of Midwest charm, talk of changing the world and a setlist of hits that never let up. The event is $60 for the public.

As far as cool band names are concerned, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band is pretty high up there. The funk outfit takes to the Big Dipper stage along with Passafire and Evergreen. The show starts at 7 pm and is $15 at the door. 

Coming all the way from Portland for yet another awesome performance is the Scott Pemberton Trio, schlepping a brand new album at Red Room Lounge. The band played last year's Elkfest and Perry Street Shakedown and this time they're playing with Real Life Rockaz starting at 9 pm.
