Hello, folks! We're going in a new direction with the ol' What's Up? blog. Beginning this week, we'll post a week's worth of tips every Monday so that you can plan ahead a bit. As always, these suggestions are just a small sampling of all the great options you'll find in our event listings and Staff Picks. 

Here are a few highlights of the week of June 1-7:

Monday, June 1
FOOD & DRINK | Zola is hosting an El Mayor Tequila Tasting from 5-7 pm, where you can hear from co-owner Graciela Gonzalez, a renowned sommelier of tequila. 

Tuesday, June 2
LIVE BANDS | Nashville-based indie-rockers Bully headline a show at The Bartlett. The band, led by Alicia Bognanno, is in the midst of a three-week run opening for Best Coast, and they'll be joined by locals Heavy Seventeen Tuesday night. Here's a bit of Bully: 
LIVE BANDS | Also on Tuesday, Alabama hip-hopper Yelawolf headlines at Knitting Factory, joined by Hillbilly Casino and DJ Klever. Five years after his mixtape made Yelawolf a rising star, he's still trying to recapture that fire. 

Wednesday, June 3
VISUAL ARTS | The Riverpoint Campus has a must-see art show opening called BOYCOTT! The Art of Economic Activism, which includes 58 protest posters from a variety of campaigns through the years, including United Farm Workers, anti-apartheid movements and anti-sweatshop campaigns. It's open for viewing through June 12, 9 am-7 pm. 

Thursday, June 4
THEATER | The Spokane Civic Theatre hosts the 27th Playwrights Festival for four days starting on Thursday. The event features six one-act plays by six regional writers. 

LIVE BANDS | James McMurtry is one of the best roots-music songwriters going, and his live shows can be great, particularly in an intimate venue like The Bartlett. Here's a McMurtry sample: 
PERFORMANCE ARTS | Marvel Universe LIVE! takes a whole lot of familiar comic book characters like The Hulk, Thor, Spiderman and Captain America and puts them in an original story for the live stage. The performances run through the weekend. Also make sure to pick up a copy of this Thursday's issue for a big preview of the show, and why Marvel is doing so darn well these days.

Friday, June 5
VISUAL ARTS | There are a lot of great opportunities to see new artwork at each First Friday. (Find our updated listings of all FF events later this week, at Inlander.com/FirstFriday.) One of them this time around is the SFCC Photography Grad Show going up at The Bartlett. 

COMEDY | A Tree Grows in Garland takes local legends, lore and stories and puts a funny spin on them, courtesy of the funny folks at Blue Door Theatre.
