You know how we all complain about the Christmas decorations showing up in the grocery stores and malls before Halloween is even over? Get used to it, because most the entertainment for the next couple months is going to revolve around Christmas, with a side of Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. But you don't have to give in, just check out our event listings and Staff Picks for great options, and save the holiday shenanigans for later.
Here are some highlights of the week ahead:
Monday, Nov. 9
MUSIC EVENTS & CONCERTS | Head on up to Shadle High School for the Shadle Park Veteran's Concert, featuring the Shadle Park Band paying tribute to those who served in the armed forces. There's also a Veteran's Day concert at Central Lutheran Church featuring the Ferris Wind Ensemble.
LIVE MUSIC | Sturgill Simpson, winner of the Americana Music Awards Artist of the Year trophy this year, headlines a show at Knitting Factory, doing that old-school outlaw country thing he does so well. Here's a sample of his style:
WORDS | Popular author, hilarious speaker and NPR regular David Sedaris drops by The Bing for a night that will be full of thought-provoking talk and loud laughs.
FOOD & DRINK | We all want to enjoy a real winter this year, right? Do your part by attending the Pray for Snow Party at Perry Street Brewing, featuring ski flicks, raffles and costume contests. First person to cite Hot Dog: The Movie wins! (That is totally not true, but you're thinking about that '80s classic now, right? You're welcome)
