Taima the Hawk, showing off his impressive nearly 5-foot wingspan, leads the Seahawks to football victory at all home games.

The Seahawks — for all of you fair-weather fans, like myself — are back in the playoff hunt. And after the dismal start to the season, it feels so good to have the team back to their old tricks (although, sadly, without the help of Marshawn Lynch). Prior to what will surely be an all-out beat-down of the Cleveland Browns this weekend, you may want to show up at the Seahawks Pro Shop in Spokane Valley Saturday to not only hang with other die-hard fans but also meet Spokane’s own Taima the Hawk, the Seahwaks’ live animal mascot.

As the first Seahawks Pro Shop east of the Cascades, the new location opened in October. Although it’s a seasonal location (at least for now), the store opening in the Spokane Valley Mall proves just how dedicated Spokane-area Seahawks fans are — and how much the other side of the state recognizes that. Besides the online store, there are only five other physical team store locations.

Saturday, Taima the Hawk, the African augur hawk — who for 11 seasons has led the Seattle Seahawks onto their home field, more often than not to victory — along with owner David Knutson will be available for pictures with fans of all ages from 2-4 pm. While the beautiful bird is completely used to being around humans and well trained, he is still a bird of prey. Fans are reminded to be respectful. The event is free but spectators are advised to bring their own cameras and to show up about an hour prior to assure a great spot in line.

Last month, fans were able to similarly take pictures with the Seahawks’ Super Bowl XLVIII Vince Lombardi trophy at the Valley Mall Pro Shop. Who knows what sort of photo opportunity may present itself next month?

The Inlander got up close and personal with Taima last season. Read that story here.

Watch the time Taima went to meet his adoring fans at one of last year's games.
