Listeners to the episode of Marc Maron's WTF
podcast that was released this morning heard a lot of great things about Spokane.
This all came on the heels of Maron's rather to-the-point announcement that this Wednesday's episode of Maron
, his IFC series, will be the last
. He said that after three seasons of the critically acclaimed show, he's calling it quits rather than milk the show simply for money.
That likely left a lot of his loyal fans dazed and maybe a bit disappointed. But for those of us in the Inland Northwest, we were then treated to several minutes of Maron, who came to Spokane for a string of shows at the Spokane Comedy Club
, discussing how impressed he was by our fair city.
"I had no idea what to expect. I was anticipating meth zombies wandering down the street, some babbling to themselves in some frenetic, twitchy pace — some of them on fire. I was expecting rundown buildings and tattered window dressing awnings. But no, I get to Spokane and right away flying in I’m like, 'Holy shit, this is beautiful.' Not only that, it was a warm and nice place to be. I don’t know, it just had a vibe like something is about to happen."
Maron — who was spotted in spots like Auntie's Bookstore and Garageland (where he got a lot of records) during his time there — also discussed the seagulls that spend their time in the Dick's parking lot and how Spokane would be a good place for tech companies and manufacturers to check out.
"I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag, but if you’re looking to get out of wherever the f*** you are, I’m thinking of Spokane," he said.
Such praise is nice whenever you can get it, but it's worth noting that Maron's podcast is among the most popular podcasts ever.
A few million people very well might listen to his recommendations. Not bad, folks.
You can listen to the whole thing right here
. The Spokane praise begins around the 7:40 mark.
