The Motel Blues

Posted on Mon, Jan 3, 2011 at 9:13 AM

To all the people renting a hotel/motel room New Year's Eve with the intention of partying. I'm a hotel maid who is sick of you inconsiderate people trashing your room and leaving no tip for the absolute hell you put the housekeeper through. I mean do you have any idea the stress you put us through?  We get paid minimum wage to change sheets, dust, clean the bathroom and vacuum for people who leave the room in a decent way. Minimum wage doesn't even come close to making it worth cleaning up all the beer cans/bottles, pizza boxes, food and bar stuff you leave in your room. Not to mention handling the dirty underwear/socks you'll leave on the floor, vomit in the bathroom; and if you're drunk enough, some of you idiots will even urinate in the bathtub!  It's not fair, and it's not right!  We don't get paid more for the extra work, we don't get extra time in your room just because you trashed it.  We are made to work faster and harder for nothing! And it's your fault!  At the minimum, you should leave no less than $25 for the hotel maid in your room before you leave. You have the money to rent a room and buy all that alcohol and food, so you have the money to compensate us for the certain hell you'll put us through.  It's only right.  This not only applies to New Year's Eve, but to St. Patrick's Day, Hoopfest, and any time you rent a room to party. This is not an easy job, so treat us the way you would like to be treated if you were in our shoes.
