RE: Bicycle Riders

The most important part of RCW 46.61.770 is "as near the right side of the
right through lane as is safe." Since one doesn't want to get hit by a car
door being opened, which could get him or her run over, it is safer to ride
at least three feet out, which is about the middle of the lane. Also, since
it is safer to force a car into the next lane to pass, instead of trying to
pass really close, it is safer to ride in the middle of the lane. Since one
is more visible in the middle of the lane, it is safer to ride in the
middle of the lane. Of course one should be courteous on one lane roads,
and let vehicles pass, but with two or more lanes, they can change lanes to
pass. Sincerely, guy who will be continuing to ride in the middle of the
lane for safety reasons.
