Respect

Posted on Sat, Jul 21, 2012 at 8:23 AM

When I was young, my parents taught me to respect my elders. As I got
older, I learned that respect is earned. It's astounding to me how
many "elders" I deal with on a daily basis that feel they deserve respect
simply for being old. You're an older, not quite elderly able bodied woman
that comes into the restaurant where I work during our busiest time. There
are 10 people in line in front of you and not one single empty seat in the
house. Not one. You pushing past me doesn't make a seat materialize out of
thin air. You tell me your husband is in line ordering, look at the line
and see 8 women, a young child and a man who is maybe 20. If that's your
husband good for you, but he still has 9 people in front of him waiting for
a table! You yell at me that you need to sit down right away. I still can't
make a table appear. I tell you very nicely that we are first come first
served and that I am sorry, but I have no places to sit. Then you complain
to my manager. Now my job may be on the line because of you when I did
nothing wrong!
