The Reddening, epilogue: Mager concedes

Posted on Wed, Nov 17, 2010 at 2:30 PM

More than two weeks after Election Day, the most contested local race is finally over. Al French is the newest Spokane County commissioner.

In a letter to supporters, first reported on the Down to Earth blog, Mager said she was giving up the ghost: With just 750 ballots left to count, French has a close to 3,000 vote lead.

Which means that the three-person board is now made up exclusively of Republicans. During her campaign, Mager — a Democrat — pointed out the work she did as the "odd duck" on the board, but this message failed to resonate with voters in this especially Republican election year.

The all-white, all-male, all-Republican board will exist for at least two years, when both Todd Mielke and Mark Richard will be up for re-election.
