MORNING HEADLINES: Police bungled Zehm case. Plus, you're not safe in your own lawn.
Officer who struck Zehm violated policy — New documents show that Jim Nicks, acting Spokane Police Chief in 2006 when Otto Zehm died in police custody, believed the lead officer erred by assaulting Zehm. It's the first crack in the city's five-year-old case. (SR)
Kendall Yards to get public money even without public bids — The downtown development didn't seek public bids on its work, professed not to care about tax revenue it could lose if it didn't, then did ask for the money, and got it, by a 6-1 vote of the Spokane City Council. (SR)
Man run over on his own lawn — A woman with a driver's permit confused her brake pedal for her gas pedal and lurched onto the lawn of a Valley man, striking and killing him. (KXLY)
