Over Here

Marriage equality — The Washington state House passed a bill legalizing gay marriage yesterday, following in the Senate's footsteps. Gov. Chris Gregoire, who prompted the legislation, has promised to quickly sign the bill into law. (NYT)

911 Emergency? — Someone called 911 from Chanin Starbuck's cellphone in December before hanging up. Authorities didn't follow up properly with the call and soon they found the body of Starbuck, a victim of murder. Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich says he's looking into the 911 protocol in response to the incident. (KXLY)

City not to blame for suicide — A federal judge ruled yesterday that officers acted appropriately in a botched attempt to stop a suicidal man from jumping off the Monroe Street Bridge in 2007. The man's father was seeking $4.7 million from the city, saying that officers acted wrongly when they hid behind a portico, tried to Taser the man and rushed him, prompting him to jump to his death. Animal hoarder unhoarded — About 30 animals were seized from a Hillyard home yesterday by Spokanimal after authorities learned they were not properly cared for. (KXLY)

Over There

States leave behind 'No Child' — President Obama today will allow ten states to opt out of the Bush-era "No Child Left Behind" law. Washington and Idaho are not in the mix. (KREM)

A fish with two heads — Mine waste is to blame for a trout that has two heads. For real. (SR)

Getting stoned in Seattle — Here's a review of Seattle's top three carbonated, cannabinoid drinks.  And here's a discussion of cannabis activists cannibalizing themselves. (Seattle Weekly)
