Desert Island Discs

by

It's amazing how years after your kids leave home, you find yourself still bailing them out from time to time. Ten bucks till payday? No problem. You wanna do your laundry here? You know where the dryer sheets are. But write a Desert Island Discs for you? You're pushing it, kid! Oh well, here goes:

1. Rod Stewart, Blondes Have More Fun. This was one of those albums I tried to hide from you kids, not only because of the racy cover and suggestive lyrics, but also because it was pretty cool, and I knew I'd never see it again.

2. The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night. Your grandfather didn't like the Beatles, so the only chance I got to hear them was when I babysat a girl who had all their records!

3. Roy Orbison, For the Lonely: 18 Greatest Hits. I always thought his voice was so spooky and beautiful.

4. Creedence Clearwater Revival, Creedence Gold. Your father and I went to a CCR concert at the U of I in the early '70s and couldn't believe how thick the pot smoke was!

5. Elton John, don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player. I have a hard time picking a favorite -- I like everything he does.
