There’s no science that says eating a good meal while looking out on gorgeous scenery will improve the taste of your food. But here in the Northwest, you’ll easily find people who may argue that point.
In Spokane, there’s no shortage of food-with-a-view, and for nearly a decade now, Anthony’s at Spokane Falls has been one of the most popular spots to have a high-quality meal with a side of beauty. And now that Anthony’s has purchased the land it’s been located on since 2004, it’s safe to say that this view is here to stay.
While Anthony’s — known for a dedication to serving fresh seafood that requires the restaurants to book their fish space on Alaska Airlines flights — operates 25 different restaurants in Washington and Oregon, vice president of marketing Lane Hoss says that she doesn’t view the Spokane eatery (or any other of its locations) as “chain” restaurants.
“We don’t have a plan to open 300 new restaurants. We’re very site driven,” says Hoss, who is celebrating her 30th year with the company.
In fall of this year, Anthony’s purchased the previously city-owned lot for $3.9 million, beating out another bid from a local developer. It gives this location of the family of restaurants a chance to think about the future.
“Now that we know we have a secure long-term future in Spokane, we’re looking at upgrading and improving areas in the restaurant. Having a secure future opens up a lot of possibilities,” says Hoss.
The company currently has plans submitted to the city for two public viewing areas on each side of the restaurant where anyone — not just diners — could stop in and take a look at the falls.
“We have tons of people who come by and pull into the parking lot and look at the falls. We know that having that access to the falls is important to the public,” says Hoss.
While there might be some subtle changes to this Northwest favorite, you can expect much of the tradition and locally sourced cuisine to remain very much the same. For example, just as they have for more than 25 years across the region, Anthony’s will be offering its post holiday lobster special ($19.99) Monday through Thursday from Jan. 7 to Feb. 7.
