How Long?

I'm pretty sure that's the thinking behind the Idaho/Utah/L.A. band Love You Long Time's decision to form an electronic pop band with a dash of retro-hop thrown in for good measure.





This foursome is a lovable brat pack for the next generation. With their sassy hip-hop mentality and infectious beats Oz (vocals, synth, and guitar), his sister Sally (keyboard as well as Key-Tar), her husband Chains (bass) -- who I suspect actually may not be named that -- and some other kid Liam (drums), who bears no apparent relationship to the other three members besides friendship, produce seriously unabashed synth-driven dance pop.





They began their journey to synth stardom in 2005 with the release of their first EP Don't Poop On My Party. It's an ode to carefree living in brazen amounts of brightly colored clothing that has set the groundwork for the entire philosophy behind their music: dancing away your suburban blues in Day-Glo green! From there they've gone on to release a second EP Party Till You're Pooped in April 2007. (I mean, if the formula works it works, right?) Currently on their Jesse Loves A.C. Sla Tour, the neon-clad Love You Long Time are touring these United States planting parties wherever they land.





Their music is a seamless blend of electronic dance punk with a shameless dash of white-kid hip-hop. It says things like, "Hey, we're cool, if we just believe in ourselves," and "True that, girl, you look fine," and, "No, my jeans aren't painted onto my body." Truly the message of this generation, their philosophy can be illustrated in the dance-pop song "Nonsense" ("Let's be true to the life that we're living") and "Showstopper" ("We can't wait for the weekend / When you're dressed to kill") and it sells. Why wouldn't it? It is a comforting thought to know that you're only a couple of bucks away from forgetting that you have an algebra test on Monday and no way to pay the rent. All that you have to do right now is dance.
