CYCLING Not all roads, the relativists among us say, are right for all people. Some choose the route of hills and valleys and hairpin turns; others set out on the straight, narrow and conventional.
I mean, if everybody took the road less traveled, it would sort of defeat the point.
The Tour Des Lacs, the two-day bike adventure from Spokane to Lake Coeur d’Alene, takes that philosophy to heart. Instead of one route, they have many.
For starters, there’s the quick and easy road (40 miles), the scenic route (110 miles) or the really, really “scenic” route (124 very hilly miles).
And if you want, you can just go by sea. Let your bike pedals and legs rest, as you hitch a ride on a cruise ship across the water.
But however you choose to travel, whichever route you take, one thing remains eternal: There will be a pancake breakfast.

CHAMBER MUSIC
When narrators, backed by a tinkling piano, read poems with cutesy titles like “Hibertoo and Other Animals,” “Cobweb Castle,” and “There Are Fairies at the Bottom of Our Garden,” you know you’re in a twee kind of Edwardian fantasy land.
On Saturday night at the Bing, Allegro Baroque is presenting a family-themed event centered on the songs of the Romantic composer Robert Schumann, his wife Clara and her protegé Liza Lehmann.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Lehmann was one of England’s best songwriters. Kids will love her piano-poems like “To a Little Red Spider” and “The Selfish Giant.” Their parents, meanwhile, will enjoy the Schumann lieder and Clara’s Romances. A narrator will be joined by piano, oboe, baritone and soprano.
As added lures, half-price rush tickets will be available after 6:30 pm on the night of the concert, along with instant reimbursements for those parking in the Davenport Hotel garage.
