Tale of Two Rivers

Dams along the many rivers of the Pacific Northwest are a familiar sight — there are more than 60 spread across the massive Columbia River watershed. These man-made structures are crucial for the production of renewable energy that powers our homes, workplaces and schools. But what about the drawbacks, and how do we find the right balance between environment and economy? These questions, among many others pertaining to politics, wildlife and people, will be explored and discussed at a conversation with two Northwest journalists who’ve both extensively reported on dam removal and restoration: Lynda Mapes for the Seattle Times, and Rocky Barker for the Idaho Statesman. The event is co-sponsored by a long list of regional environmental advocacy groups. Make sure to RSVP if you plan to attend, as organizers are expecting a full house.
